hi, I’m kristen!
— the human and heart behind Intentional Ink.
I’ve always been drawn to art, design, and all things creative. I was part of a Visual Arts program in high school and went through a two-week phase of thinking it would be so cool to be a tattoo artist. I never thought about it again for another 10 years until late 21019—
I came across a small tattoo shop in Bali (Karma House) on instagram that offered ceremonial tattoos. The idea that tattoos could be sacred, intentional, and healing opened my mind to what this artistry could be. I immediately grabbed my sketchbook and wrote that I wanted to become an intentional tattoo artist. Not long after, I bought my first stick-and-poke kit.
I taught myself how to tattoo by handpoking friends in my apartment (and even tents and basements), went on to tattoo out of my van for a couple of years, which was honestly such a vibe (iykyk), until finally opening my own studio in Buffalo NY.
Every detail of the studio was thoughtfully designed to offer a welcoming, friendly, beautiful, calming, and safe space.
I specialize in fine line florals, delicate ornamental pieces, type work, and custom personal tattoos. My approach is calm, warm, and deeply reverent of the intimate energy exchange that is the tattoo experience. My hope is that your tattoo experience feels like an exhale — a pause to honor who you’ve been, who you are, and who you’re becoming.
And because I know the deep frustrations of being a self-taught artist + how limited the education and resources are for tattooing, I’ve now taken on the role of educator and mentor! It’s been an honor to guide others on their journey and witness my students stepping into this artistry.
